Research Tweets, XCelsius Dashboards

Today I was trying to think of an easily accessible set of RSS data feeds that can be used for the methods presented in this link: http://www.xcelsiusinfo.com/2010/02/19/consuming-xml-data-in-xcelsius-using-excel-xml-map/ The post inspired me to get over my fear of XML and XCelsius so I turned to our Twitter Feeds.  I picked a very high volume user, Gary, and a lower volume user, @bradleymc.  Using the techniques created in the aforementioned video, I determined one could easily create a dashboard of relevent tweets for private use and research.  It’s the same that actual clients use but I had fun playing in XCelsius 2008 SP3.  No video goes with this presentation, all techniques are presented in the earlier video.

Here is the link to the dashboard: http://www.michaelbradley.us/TRIZDash/TweetTut.html It’s not pretty and the old cross connection issue is not addressed so the update isn’t working properly.  I’ll have to fix that, as well as make it “pretty”, but kudos to the original author.

XCelsius GameDay Part II

I created a brief demonstration on XCelsius Dashboards using the Football game as a possible scenario.  That demonstration can be found here: http://www.michaelbradley.us/xcelsius-roster-demonstration/ Today, I’ve modified the dashboard to allow for more flexible and dynamic control over the labels.  The video can be found here: http://www.michaelbradley.us/TRIZDash/Tutv2.swf.html but the dashboard can be seen below:

XCelsius Roster Demonstration

Today, I’m presenting a video on a Dashboard created in XCelsius 2008.  I’ve been having difficulties creating a straight vertical line across an entire graph.  Stacking Horizontal Bullet Charts properly actually achieves the desired effect.  White out some areas (or whatever your background is) and you can put a line vertically on any surface, dynamically.  In this example, I created a simple dashboard for a football team coach waiting for the players to show up.  Ever show up for a pick up game and your team isn’t there?  Look!  There’s an XCelsius Solution for that!

The Video can be found here: http://www.michaelbradley.us/TRIZDash/FootballX2008.swf.html

Part II can be found here:  http://www.michaelbradley.us/TRIZDash/Tutv2.swf.html

TRIZ, XCelsius Dashboard Update

I’ve decided to make this a work in progress, online.  Please provide your input where helpful.

Normally, XCelsius isn’t used to present the information in this manner.  I’ve basically crammed a simple database into an Excel file and shrouded it in XCelsius.  Why?  Because it is portable.  All of the TRIZ databases I’ve seen are not presentable in a Power Point file for presentation, a PDF file for reference, AIR or SWF for offline reading.  Using the two dashboards (and the countless ones I didn’t publish), these applications are feasible.

It is also an experiment to see what TRIZ looks like when multiple applications are locked side by side and to see if the original authors’ (www.triz40.com, www.triz-journal.com) conclusions hold up in study.  More than that, I want to improve upon the work and find an application specifically of my own interest, ITIL principles and the TRIZ contradiction matrix.

Alas, here are the two dashboards:

1.  TRIZ Contradiction Matrix: http://www.michaelbradley.us/TRIZDash/TRIZLookup/TRIZPrinciplesv2.html
This particular page takes a long time to load, so I am not putting it inline with this blog.  Be patient, it does load.  Once it loads, you will be able to reference all of the forces on any dynamic or charcteristic in the TRIZ contradiction matrix.  Each contradiction is then cross referenced with the principles elsewhere in the framework.

2.  TRIZ Applied Dashboard: http://www.michaelbradley.us/TRIZDash/TRIZApplied/TrizApplied.html
Again, this page takes some time to load but it attempts to demonstrate the applications proposed by the folks at www.triz-journal.com.  I’ve taken several examples of basic business principles, the base scientific principles, application in Service Oriented Management, Service Management, and Food Service Management.  The colors are a little quirky but that is a consequence of my experimentation with the XCelsius Themes.

Let me know your thoughts but take this with you as you browse: The power of presentation with XCelsius is practically limitless.  If I can present such a combination of variables on a single screen, then your local balance sheet is not too much more of a challenge.  Second, the applicability of TRIZ in boundless markets and execution strategies – the principles can be adapted for any handbook and inventive methodology.

Producing in 2010, TRIZ and XCelsius

Time to get working!  Happy 2010 everybody.  I’ve started a few projects including my new ‘re’-interest in the Inventive Creative Process – TRIZ, and I’ve started using XCelsius, the SAP presentation tool for excel.  The results are stunning and I’ll post them soon.  The bascis are completed: full 78 variable lookup, 40 principle alignment and cross reference.  I just have to ‘pretty’ it up and I’ll bring TRIZ to michaelbradley.us.

XCelsius is a remarkable tool.  I’ve been working with it for a month or so and I’ve been forced to get REALLY creative with Excel.  Combine offset, index, match, and vlookups with XCelsius and almost any data is presentable in a fashionable dashboard.  I used to fancy myself a numbers guy but advanced matrix work, once reserved exclusively for databases, can be easily presented in this product.

Quick vote, by comments only: Are you interested in an XCelsius video series on this site?
