Testing BlogJet

I have installed an interesting application – BlogJet. It’s a cool Windows client for my blog tool (as well as for other tools). Get your copy here: http://blogjet.com

As a test post, I put up Maggie (card shark)!

Good thing for low limits…

Remember when I said that I’ve tried poker again?

It’s sure good for me that there are penny games out there.  I am about to hang it up again.  There are so many hands played in an electronic game that the statistics are the only real element in the game. Read the rest of this entry »

Abby and The Felt

Abby surprised me tonight by bringing out a deck of cards (Paddington Bear – originals) in an effort to learn to play some cards.  We started with Gin and quickly lost to my 5-K straight but the wiley bride of mine knew exactly what I was doing.  I think that’ll be our home game.

Then we turned to Poker (get your mind out of the gutter).  It may be some time before we are playing poker together because I really don’t think she’s interested in the game.  However, I respect her effort and appreciate the time.  I’ll let you know if poker becomes a family sport.

I am the worst Internet Poker Player, ever.

I boycotted Internet Poker for over a year.  I approve of reasonable and responsible gambling generally and I encourage strict discipline when playing on the internet because it is too easy to tie your bank account to the table.

That said, after watching a friend play on Bodog the other night, I decided to get back on the e-Felt.   On Friday night I reactivated my Bodog account (which means I installed it on a new PC and guessed at my password) and fired it up today.  I found I had exactly 111 cents in my account so I jumped on the first 5/10 cent table available.

Why do I hate internet poker?  Bad Beats are the only thing you can rely on.  No matter how good your hand is, you’ll get a serious beat down – at least I will.  Remember that Johnny Cash song, “I’ve been Everywhere”?  I’ve had every bad beat on the e-felt that you can imagine.

I folded every crap hand sent my way, didn’t bluff, and just waited for my cards.  The first sign was the A8 suited, played conservatively and lost to A10.  No biggie, I expected it.  Second sign, AQ, 2 kings on the flop after two calls on raises pre-flop (limit poker) – fold.  Soon, I’m down to 60 cents and I am feeling it: 9,10 suited.  No raises, call.  Flop 10, 10, 7op 10, 10, 7

: no flush draw, the cents start flying.  On the turn, I’m raised so I go all in with my lone penny.  The turn didn’t help anybody and it was obvious.  River…

River, river, river.  I hate the river.  There is nothing I can do at this point but wait and hope the board doesn’t pair and give somebody quads.  The river is deep, fast, muddy, and unpredictable.  But, since I’m all in, I don’t even have a paddle.

The river is an Ace.  Game over.  Three 10s does not beat a full boat of Aces over 10s.

That’s the game and that’s why I don’t play online poker, often.

Full House, nobody home

My beautiful wife made the trip back home to meet with her sisters and get some girl time in so I went to play some cards tonight.  The guys I play with are fun and almost never out of control and, fortunately for me, tonight they were definately not in the cards.  Alright playing poker until 1:00l 1:00

AM is a bit irresponsible when I have so much to do at home but I did need some me time.

The action was fantastic.  Arriving late in the game (second round of blinds), I was quickly bumped to second chip leader at my table.  I made a few mistakes but also made A LOT of good reads.  Unfortunately, I was card dead for the rest of the tournament and couldn’t wait to get of of the second half beatings and join the cash game.

I guess I’m a better cash game player than a tourney player.  In my opinion, the tourney guys are the skilled players and the cash players are in it for the small victories.  At least in these parts.

In the end, I earned back my entry fee and doubled my stake in the second game.  All in all, it was a good return to the table after a few month hiatus.  It’s likely I won’t go back for quite some time so I must bask in the glow of this small victory.

MC update

Mark did very well this year at the WSOP.  Of over 6800 players, Mark finished 352.  Congratulations on such an extraordinary accomplishment in a tough field of players.

Keep an eye on the broadcast of the WSOP; Mark was at the featured table today with Phil Hellmuth.   According to one of the official updates, the Bad Boy had a classic blowup at the table so look for it and you’ll spot Mr. Crocker.

Congrats! MC Made GOOD

I got word that M. Crocker made it past the bubble and into the money!  Best of luck from here on in…

Keep Trucking Mark!

A friend of mine is in the WSOP 2008.  From what I have heard, he has made it to July 11.  Remarkable man, though I haven’t had the pleasure of playing with him.

Brevity…

Ok, I just wasted a half hour posting something that I thought was interesting but something happened during the post and it got deleted.  C’est la vie.

Short version: the Ellis Island Casino & Brewery is the Vegas version of the local watering hole.  Good action, cool people and no glitz & glamour.  We ate ourselves full for 14 bucks and won 30 on the BJ Table.  One fella actually bet 5 for Abby’s Birthday.  Not a bad deal at all.

Cabs are a bit pricy with an “get in” charge of $3.20.

Slots don’t seem to be working for us.  Private message, “NoNo, your lucky dollar wasn’t really all that lucky.”

Craps is not as confusing as I thought it was. Summary to come later, after a Vegas Nap.
